This rare exhibition explores the life of Wilbur D. Peat through his art and artifact. An American born in China, he trained as an artist at the Cleveland School of Art and became director at the Akron Art Institute before moving to Indianapolis in 1929 to take the Director position at the John Herron Art Museum (the future Indianapolis Museum of Art) and remained so for 36 years. Mr. Peat became a leader, expert and author of the artistic life and heritage for the city and state with everlasting effects still seen today. This is a celebration of his work and contributions.
