Public Talk with Carrie Mae Weems

Presented by Herron Galleries at Herron School of Art and Design

Join us on October 24 for the 2018 Jane Fortune Outstanding Women Visiting Artist Lecture with Carrie Mae Weems. Weems is the recipient of the MacArthur Fellowship, the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Prix de Rome.

The annual Jane Fortune Outstanding Women Visiting Artist Lecture is made possible by a gift from Jane Fortune and was established to bring internationally acclaimed female artists to Herron.

On view this fall in the Galleries at Herron:

In the Berkshire, Reese & Paul Galleries through November 10: Kenneth Tyler: The Art of Collaboration, focusing on renowned master printer and Herron alumnus Kenneth Tyler’s pioneering collaborative work with some of the most iconic artists of the twentieth century. The exhibition will include screenings of a series of documentary films by filmmaker Frank Cantor that illuminate the processes of printmaking and the working relationships between the artists and Tyler.

In the Marsh Gallery through December 12: MacArthur Fellow Mary Reid Kelley and Patrick Kelley’s The Minotaur Trilogy, a trio of videos that bring a feminist perspective to the Greek myth of the minotaur, using punning wordplay, handmade costumes and sets, and bawdy humor to riff on classical mythology and pop culture.

In the Basile Gallery through December 12: Stuff(ed), an exhibition featuring the work of five contemporary artists who explore the playful, subversive power of sculpted fabric to transform and reimagine mass-market commodities and bric-a-brac from everyday life. Participating artists are Jessica Dance, Gil Yefman, Andrea Pritschow, David Gabbard, and Natalie Baxter.

Herron’s fall exhibitions and programs occur in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary of IUPUI’s founding in 1969. Now through June 30, 2019, IUPUI will honor the past, celebrate the present, and envision the next fifty years with openings, unveilings, and special events. Visit 50.iupui.edu to learn more.
