The Indianapolis Contemporary Museum of Art (iMOCA) has partnered with Simon Youth Foundation (SYF) to open a pop-up gallery exhibition, “Behind a Closed Book,” which features artwork produced and curated by students from Simon Youth Academy at Circle Centre Mall, an Indianapolis Public School.

In preparation for the pop-up gallery, iMOCA and Simon Youth Academy at Circle Centre Mall teachers collaborated closely with the students to hone their creativity and artistic abilities. Through a series of workshops, iMOCA introduced students to the work of contemporary photographers whose work features autobiographical subject matter. Indianapolis artist Christopher Hill also spoke to students about his artistic practice, which provided them with further inspiration.

The public is invited to see the culmination of this work at “Behind Closed Doors,” showcasing photographs that tell the stories and personal experiences of Simon Youth Academy at Circle Centre Mall students Daniel Alayas, Alajandro Flores, Getzmani Gomez, Christian Gonzalez, Tania Gutierrez-Munoz, Estefany Macias, Gustavo Munoz, Adam Reyes and Kaleah Spears.
