Presented by Dr. James Glass at Unknown

A Free Illustrated Lecture by Dr. James Glass

Monday, November 12, 2018, at the Riviera Club Ballroom, 5640 N. Illinois Street. 7:00-7:30 P.M. Coffee and Tea Served. Lecture begins at 7:30 P.M.

Come and share with architectural historian James Glass, as he describes the rich and creative exuberance of architecture in Mexico, beginning with the monumental temples and palaces of the indigenous civilizations and then turning to the varied and artistically sublime buildings of Spanish Colonial Mexico. That architecture included restrained Plateresque and Renaissance designs, inventive Baroque buildings, extravagant Churrigueresque churches and palaces, and austere Neo-Classical structures. We will also look at the architecture of the Mexican Republic, including French-inspired buildings, Spanish Colonial Revival architecture, and the Modernism of mid-20th century Mexico. The lecture will end with some illustrations of how Mexican architecture has influenced the United States.
