From September 24-29, the Kurt Vonnegut Museum and Library is celebrating the freedom to read and expression of ideas by exploring censorship and challenged works.
This year, Ball State University English professor, Rai Peterson, will be living in the front window of KVML as our prisoner. For the entire week she will be imprisoned behind a wall of banned books, while joining the community in listening to readings of challenged works and discussions with educators, journalists, community leaders, researchers, and storytellers.
Not only are we supporting banned books, but also mental health awareness and our year of programming theme Lonesome No More. Kurt Vonnegut’s daughter, Nanette, will host a discussion at the Indiana Medical History Museum, where she will discuss her maternal grandmother’s time at Central State Hospital, and the Vonnegut family’s own struggle with mental health challenges.
We have an exciting week of programs tackling censorship and difficult topics that you won’t want to miss! Check out our event page to RSVP and to see our full schedule of events and speakers!
Visit www.kvml.org/events/bannedbooksweek/ for tickets and to view the week’s events!
