OPEN Indy (Original. Performance. Experiments. Now.) is a new program for performers of all disciplines in the Indianapolis area, conceived by Indianapolis Movement Arts Collective and NoExit Performance, that provides accessible, professional, and dynamic training opportunities. Gerry Trentham, an internationally recognized director/performer based in Toronto and Artistic Director of lbs/sq”, will be OPEN Indy’s inaugural artist this November. Gerry’s residency is designed to connect our theater, dance, vocal and visual arts communities and to encourage cross-disciplinary collaboration in the region and will include: OPEN Indy Master Classes, OPEN Indy Performance Experiment, and a culminating performance at The District Theatre on November 16th & 17th @ 8pm. OPEN Indy is made possible by a generous grant from the Arts Council of Indianapolis.

Calling all interested performers!

Participate in a full day of creation with Gerry Trentham FREE OF CHARGE and be a part of the OPEN Indy culminating performance at The District Theatre on November 16th and 17th! Interested community members of all experience levels and art forms will have the rare opportunity to perform in the new work – COMMUTE, conceived and directed by Gerry. COMMUTE is a contemporary work about our contemporary time where it seems an interest in extremes and labels is separating citizens – in the USA and Canada and around the world. This work researches the means to commute (between the rural and urban, between cultures, between art forms, between skill levels, between poor and wealthy, between conservative and liberal mindsets.) It is a work for everyone.

To participate, you must:

1. Have taken at least one of Gerry’s workshops the previous week.
2. Be available for the day of creation on Sunday, November 11th from 10:00-5:00pm at The District Theatre.
3. Be available for technical rehearsals on Monday, November 12th and Wednesday, November 14th from 6:30-9:00pm at The District Theatre.
4. Be available for the final dress rehearsal on Thursday, November 15th from 6:30-9:00pm at The District Theatre.
5. Be available for the performances on November 16th and 17th at 8:00pm at The District Theatre.
