Anne McKenzie Nickolson is currently focused on creating small works embroidered on pieced grosgrain ribbon, with meditative stitching and imagery documenting various scenes in her life. Likewise, Richard Emery Nickolson, is working small, translating his drawings made from observations on site during their travels into meticulously crafted watercolor paintings. Both are inspired
by patterns they are encountering together: historic buildings, Native American petroglyphs, European portraiture, and Amish quilts are just a few of their sources. They rarely exhibit together,
so this is a particularly special opportunity to compare their complementary, yet very different, styles.
Throughout their marriage, the Nickolsons have worked in different media, but the art they create independently follows parallel tracks based on the way each experiences and interprets the world – both as individuals and through their shared history.
