Monsters, Mansions, and Madness

Presented by Marian University at Marian University Allison Mansion

Indianapolis, INDIANA– Monsters, Mansions, and Madness is an event celebrating the 200th anniversary of Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein on October 18, 2018, from 7:00-9:00 pm at Marian University.  This event is free and open to the public.

Join us for an evening of macabre masterpieces in Marian University’s historic Allison Mansion.  Indulge in wearing a complimentary Steampunk accessory (or wear your own!) as you enter the two-story foyer featuring hand-carved Circassian walnut walls in a leaf and berry motif.  Enjoy the atmosphere created by the carved mahogany paneling and plaster of the music room while you listen to a reading of Frankenstein.  Soak in the ambience of the marble aviary beneath the Tiffany stained glass ceiling when you view Frankenstein inspired artwork.  Peek through the leaded glass doors of the library bookcases as you enjoy spine-chillingly good food and drink.

When it comes to asking the hard questions at the heart of scientific investigation, perhaps no book has ever topped Frankenstein. Thanks to a generous grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, Indiana Humanities is bringing to life an array of unique, fun and thought-provoking programs that invite Hoosiers to explore Mary Shelley’s remarkable novel, which turns 200 in 2018.  Monsters, Mansions, and Madness is made possible through this grant and the partnership among the Indiana Humanities, The Indiana Medical History Museum, Marian University, and local artists Jim Gerard and Wendy Franklin.
