Frank Basile Emerging Stories Premiere featuring David Matlack

Presented by Storytelling Arts of Indiana at Indiana History Center

“The Stories in Our Stones”

This original piece chronicles David Matlack’s fascination with the unique geology of Indiana, specifically the Whitewater Gorge’s famous formation of fossil-rich limestone. He first became inspired by it when he was growing up in nearby Richmond, Indiana. These geological formations serve as the backdrop to 450 million years of history.

Matlack has been a storyteller since 1990 and performed at festivals all across the country, including Gorge West Storytelling Festival in Texas, Atlanta Storytelling Festival, Tell it to the Mountains in Asheville, North Carolina, and the Florida Folk Festival. He was the 2016 winner of the Liar’s Contest at the Indiana State Fair and has performed for Ghost Stories at Crown Hill Cemetery since 2015. His most recent work was premiering “The Oracle of Delphi: A Grand History of the Delphi Opera House” for the If These Walls Could Tell series.
