“VERSUS—A Group Show” will pit the 15 FC9 member artists against each other by way of three color-based teams: The Yellow Team, led by FC9 president Joy Hernandez; the Red Team, led by FC9 vice president Andrew Koeling; and the Blue Team, led by FC9 Treasurer Kimberly Ewing. Each team will create a mini group show based on their team’s color and present all three group shows to patrons during the First Friday art tour. Patrons will be invited to vote for the winning team, earning that team bragging rights and the admiration of their peers. The artists have promised a heated contest as only creative minds can foster.

“We wanted to have some fun with this show, but the competition is fierce,” said Hernandez. “Team smack-talking takes on creative twists when it’s a group of artists. We’re normally a pretty friendly bunch, but we may need to find a referee.”

Full Circle Nine Gallery has recently added a slew of new artists, and will add more after an upcoming expansion. In an effort to get to know each other, and to foster teamwork, VERSUS was conceived as a fun way to bring the artists together…while pitting them against each other. During First Friday, patrons will vote by written ballot on the winners, and the results will be announced during the monthly +Saturday event.

“Everyone on Red Team is excited to create something really unique for this show,” said Andrew Koeling, before indulging in his competitive nature. “There is red in everyone—everyone bleeds red!”

On the other hand, Blue Team captain Kimberly Ewing says that Blue Team is keeping in tune with their team color, and keeping it mellow. “I think it’ll be a fun and exciting way to connect and learn about each other. Surround yourself with only people who are going to life you higher.”

Ewing, who is also a bullying prevention and leadership trainer, outside of her artistic pursuits, will be keeping an eye on the upcoming mayhem. “Relax, we’re all crazy…it’s not a competition!”
