For our fourth jam of the Music on the Monon series, Echoing Air returns to present “With Rival Notes.”
Creative artists are often spurred on to greatness by competition. In the life of composers, poets, and musical performers, this often takes the form of an audition or contest, or perhaps an attempt to impress a potential patron, employer, or love interest. This concert presents music and poetry of the Renaissance and Baroque periods inspired by personal or professional rivalry.
Founded and incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 2009, Echoing Air, Inc. is a vocal ensemble with early instruments. Echoing Air’s primary mission is to facilitate the appreciation and understanding of early and contemporary music through presentation of engaging, accessible, and informative programs geared toward audiences of all ages. Programs emphasize especially the pairing of two countertenors (male altos) and two recorders. The group’s initial focus was music of late 17th Century England but now includes an expanded palate of other European chamber works of the Renaissance and Baroque periods as well as contemporary music written for countertenor and historical instruments. The ensemble is comprised of talented performers and educators who have worked with leading proponents of early music throughout Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Echoing Air’s annual concert tours have included performances throughout the Southern and Midwestern United States as well as featured concerts in Early Music festivals.
