Joshua Mark Phillippe: My Fellow Americans, report from Puerto Rico

Joshua Mark Phillippe: My Fellow Americans, report from Puerto Rico

Presented by Indiana Interchurch Center at Indiana Interchurch Center

Opening reception: Friday, January 11, 6-8 pm

The point of inspiration for this project is the photography of Jack Delano.  Delano created two major collections of images in Puerto Rico 40 years apart, in the 1940’s and the 1980’s.  It is now 40 years since his last installment and much has happened.  Over 100 years has now passed since Puerto Rico became part of the United States of America and it’s people American citizens.  This project involves documenting and recording for posterity the many stories coming from the oldest colony in the world.

The images in this exhibition were created in Puerto Rico from 2016-2018. Ivy Tech Community College has granted Joshua sabbatical for the months of April-July 2019 to create a new body of work and to build a student program for 2020. This second exhibition will be displayed at Cat Head Press in October 2019. Like Jack Delano and the Farm Security Administration photographers of the 1940’s the goal of this project is to introduce America to Americans.
