Indiana Landmarks’ Landmark Look series offers a peek at historically significant and intriguing properties throughout Indiana.
On March 2, we invite members and visitors to see Indianapolis’s South Side Turnverein, recently renovated as headquarters for Point Comfort Underwriters.
At the turn of the twentieth century, members of Indianapolis’s German-American community hired architects Vonnegut & Bohn to create a clubhouse where they could practice the “sound bodies and sound mind” principles of Friedrich Jahn, who believed physical exercise and cultural activities led to a healthy life. Threatened by neglect in recent years, the property landed on Indiana Landmarks’ 10 Most Endangered list. Point Comfort Underwriters undertook a comprehensive rehabilitation of the building, removing added walls and dropped ceilings to reveal original features, and transforming the gym into office space.
$10 per person (free for members of Indiana Landmarks). Advance registration required. Register or purchase tickets by February 28, directly on Eventbrite at https://turnvereinlook.
