William Lawson, One Man Show & Sale - Opening Reception

William Lawson, One Man Show & Sale - Opening Reception

Presented by Irvington Historical Society at Bona Thompson

We will show a body of Will Lawson’s work through cherished works lent by collectors and new works available for purchase.  Purchase off the wall or arrange for custom work.

An Indianapolis native, Lawson was one of the last remaining students at Herron School of Art (located at 16th & Pennsylvania Street) where he independently studied the history of painters and printmakers in the region.  At the age of 20, William set out to paint scenes along Talbott Street and several historical neighborhoods such as Lockerbie, Woodruff Place and Irvington as well as depicting rural areas near his home on the south side.
His inspiration came from reading books on the Hoosier Group, Brown County Art Colony and artists of the 1930’s depression era who also studied at Herron. He has just returned from a time in Seattle where he added seascapes to his repertoire of landscapes and still life.

Lawson was one of the youngest artists to be accepted in the Hoosier Salon and Indiana Heritage Arts, winning top honors in both and was the first artist to receive the Harry A. Davis Award for urban landscape in 2006.
