Opera Sundays at the Basile

Opera Sundays at the Basile

Presented by The Indianapolis Opera at Basile Opera Center

This concert will feature the Indianapolis Opera Resident Artists performing scenes from masterworks by Mozart, Floyd, and Heggie.
Jake Heggie’s Dead Man Walking tells the story of Sister Helen Prejean, who has been contacted by a death row prison inmate. She soon learns his story, and tries to put his mind at rest before his execution. In Susannah, the title character is discovered bathing outdoors by town elders. The men are ashamed of their lust, and accuse Susannah behind her back of being indecent in a town swept up in religion. Her best friend Little Bat tells her the terrible news, and only her brother can console her. Mozart’s Così fan tutte places two couples in a test of fidelity. As Dorabella gives into Gugliemo’s wooing without much protest, Fiordiligi holds out until she cannot resist Ferrando any longer.
This event is free and open to the public. Donations will be collected in support of the education program of the Indianapolis Opera.
