A captivating storyteller and crystalline singer, Nell Snaidas presents a program painting a vivid portrait of secular and sacred everyday life in Medieval Spain and beyond, at once Iberian and Middle Eastern in flavor.
Sephardic songs and dances come to the stage of the Early Music Festival bringing the depth and sweetness to life. Since music was so central to the daily lives of the Sephardim, particularly in the domain of women, they were able to preserve this astonishing musical heritage for 500 years by oral tradition. Telling the stories of its people, our program celebrates the songs of the Sephardim, which are filled with tales of exile and courtship, family life, weddings and pranks, infectious rhythm and haunting melodies.
