The third concert of the eight concert Indianapolis Early Music Festival presents Dreams of the Wounded Musketeer. Kivie Cahn-Lipman is the recipient of a Grammy Award and is highly respected in the world of Early Music.
‘Dreams of the Wounded Musketeer’ tells the tale of imperial trumpeter, a member of the Kameradschaft, has been shot. Dying, the musician-musketeer’s life in Vienna passes before his eyes, a hazy dream. In his fever, he recalls the madness of the music from his childhood as the dissonant seconda prattica arrived north of the Alps. He thinks of the swirling wildness of the stylus phantasticus that characterize the music of his adult years. He remembers the battle that brought him here, and he ascends to heaven. The concert includes works from Biber, Schmelzer, Valentini, Bertali, Poglietti, Pezel, Drese and Capricornus.
