ART FILM ART: AN INTERPRETIVE ART SHOW

ART FILM ART: AN INTERPRETIVE ART SHOW

Presented by Circle City Industrial Complex Artists at Circle City Industrial Complex

For the second year in a row, the Indy Film Fest and the CCIC artists are collaborating on an art exhibit that bridges film and the artmaking practice. “ART FILM ART” will exhibit works by CCIC artists, who viewed a nine-minute short film selected from the winners of the 2019 Indy Fest submissions. A filmmaker has graciously agreed to allow the artists to have a private viewing of the film and create custom works inspired by the film’s premise. The film itself will be viewable for free during the exhibit.

About ART FILM ART

Neighboring CCIC tenant Indy Film Fest provided a nine-minute film, selected for the 2019 Indy Film Fest, to kick-start this playful exhibit. All works created in response to the film will be exhibited alongside the secret film during May’s First Friday. Attendees will be able to watch this short film and look at the works inspired by it. These works will remain on display for the duration of the Indy Film Fest. The 2019 Indy Film Fest will be held at the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields, opening May 2ndand closing May 12th.

In March 2019 CCIC artists received a private showing of the inspiration. In less than a month each artist distilled the film into a work of art.

“My work is three-dimensional soft sculpture, and I am inspired by the world around me through fabrics, people, situations, nature, etc,” CCIC artist, and BEBITO creator Rachel Hedges said. “I am excited to use this film as an artmaking resource as it provides many layers to pull inspiration and ideas from. Every artist has a creative filter and this collaborative project with the Indy Film Fest allows us the opportunity to see our own practice through someone else’s lens.”
