Fountain Square Clay Center 8 Week Classes

Fountain Square Clay Center 8 Week Classes

Presented by Fountain Square Clay Center at Fountain Square Clay Center

Operating out of an old industrial building that once made packing “peanuts”, supplied sheet metal, and old Ford parts, Fountain Square Clay Center provides a fully equipped clay studio for exploring clay. Our studio offers beginning and intermediate classes, and studio rental opportunity for studio potters needing their own space, but wishing to be a part of a community of ceramists and potentially a much bigger gallery. With 30 feet of ceiling height, skylights pouring in natural light, and a large open area, the space lends itself to social gatherings and special events.

Beginner & Intermediate Classes

Monday Intermediate 7-9:30pm

This class is an beginning-intermediate class for students with some experience with wheel throwing (taken one or several pottery classes in past). Students do not have to be highly skilled throwers, but should know the basics, such as wedging, centering, and pulling up walls (Two beginner classes is helpful and allows sufficient practice time to get to intermediate class).

Students will still go over the basics of throwing a cup or cylinder, but work more on uniformity and texture, and alterations. The class will also explore sets (possibly nesting sets or stacking pots) and use hand building techniques with thrown objects.

Students receive a 2 hours of instruction one day of every week for 8 weeks. Students are allotted free Open Studio hours to practice on their own. Students receive 25lbs of clay, free glazes and firing (for 1 bag of clay), but will need to bring their own tools, or can purchase a set at the studio.
