“The Phelps Connection” is nothing short of a collaboration made in heaven! It is a collaboration of Indy’s finest musicians with lead vocalist Valerie Phelps and legendary drummer Kenny Phelps.

Enjoy the passionate sounds of Valerie as she brings together a heavenly star line-up of Indy’s finest. Valerie’s vocal style is versatile and dynamic. She performs a combination of jazz and soul rolled into an inspirational mix. She has shared the stage with countless Indy jazz ensembles, and has been a featured singer at the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Indiana Black Expo, American Pianist Association Events, Indiana Fever, Super Bowl Half Time Show support vocalist. Her husband Kenny Phelps is one of the most in-demand jazz drummers internationally and in the Indianapolis area, Kenny has backed the likes of Dee Dee Bridgewater, Melvin Rhyne, Roy Meriwether and hundreds more. This power couple has made regular appearances at The Jazz Kitchen, Indy Jazz Fest, countless clubs, and studios, and regularly host events at the Indiana Landmarks Center with their organization Owl Music Group.

Rounding out this collaboration will be sax and keys from Indianapolis jazz all-stars Rob Dixon and Steven Jones. Rob Dixon the “Musical Mayor of Indianapolis” himself, steps up the groove and brings the jazz and funk on sax. Dixon has worked with such legendary and popular artists as the Count Basie Band, Tony Bennett, The Ellington Band, members of A Tribe Called Quest, The Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks, and 7 string guitar virtuoso Charlie Hunter. Rob Dixon is an adjunct professor at IUPUI and Earlham College and is the Artistic Director for Indy Jazz Fest.

Steven Jones glues the group together with accompaniment on keys. Jones is a staple in the Indy jazz scene and is often featured in groups around the area, including Triology, Premium Blend, and countless combos at every jazz club in Indianapolis. His work with Premium Blend was heavily featured in the award-winning Heartland Film Festival documentary, “Go Get Your Horn.”
