18th Annual Independent Music + Art Festival (IMAF) with the INDIEana Handicraft Exchange

18th Annual Independent Music + Art Festival (IMAF) with the INDIEana Handicraft Exchange

Presented by Harrison Center at Harrison Center

It’s time for the annual Independent Music + Art Festival (IMAF) with the INDIEana Handicraft Exchange (IHE) on June 15th from noon to 8pm, presented by the Harrison Center and Circle City Apartments.  Now in its 18th year, IMAF is a free, daylong festival held in Indy’s Old Northside neighborhood highlighting the best independent local and regional musicians, visual artists, food vendors and crafters. Founded in 2002, IMAF celebrates musicians who perform original live music and artists who create original work.

In the courtyard of the historic Harrison Center, two stages feature continuous music throughout the day.
Rusty Redenbacher returns as emcee of the music portion of the event. An exciting line-up from a wide range of musical genres is in store for attendees. The 2019 IMAF band line-up includes:

School of Rock
Flatland Harmony Experiment
Ian Illig
Extra Blue Kind
The Brother’s Footman
Sheeza
Mr. Kinetik
Brother O’ Brother
Sylmar
There Are Ghosts
Allison Victoria
Saint Aubin

Inside the building and surrounding the Harrison Center, over 100 vendors peddle their wares in the juried INDIEana Handicraft Exchange Summer Show.  IHE is a contemporary craft fair that consciously celebrates modern handmade goods, the relationship between creator and consumer, and local, alternative economies.  The IHE began in 2007 as a way to highlight local crafters and artisans as well as to expose Indianapolis to some of the best vendors on the national indie craft fair map.

Inside the Harrison Center, our galleries feature work by Benny Sanders, Derrick Carter, David M. Seward, Joseph Arens, Jeannette Pomeroy Parssi, Benaiah Cusack and Matt Kenyon.

A variety of food trucks will provide delicious food options and Sun King Brewery and New Day Craft will serve locally produced beer and cider. ArtMix returns with their popular “Here’s the Scoop!” ice cream fundraiser.

As part of the Harrison Center’s Cultural Entrepreneur Initiative, this year’s festival is coordinated by Herron High School senior, Donnie Smith. The Cultural Entrepreneur Initiative was created to give high school and college students the opportunity to learn and practice the five steps of cultural entrepreneurship: seeing a need, taking a risk, leveraging resources, investing energy and networking to build culture in Indianapolis.
