Virtual Re-Opening: Faith Blackwell's HeadSpace Exhibit at Phoenix Gallery

Presented by Phoenix Theatre at Online/Virtual Space

HeadSpace originally opened on February 28, 2020 at the Phoenix Theatre Cultural Centre’s Gallery Phoenix. However, as with much of our lives, the exhibit was interrupted by recent extraordinary events. Please support our local artists! To make a purchase or for more information, contact Faith at www.faithblackwellphotography.com. Read below for Faith’s commentary about the exhibit and to learn more about her work as an artist.

Headspace is many moods.

One flow is made up of colorful places, spaces, people and POP ART. They are there to make you happy. They are there to make you think. They are there to spark a memory. You’ll get transported into a time and place you may have forgotten. I’m known for snapping images wherever I go. Whether it is traveling to a foreign country or attending a festival down the street. Usually it is with a camera in hand. If I am on a group trip, I must forewarn them that I will stray if I catch a cool piece of street art or pretty much anything.

Another mood represents the state of the world, or part of it. People who are making a statement, standing up for what they believe and doing the right thing. Some images in black and white, while there are women standing together in all white, give a nod to the 100-year anniversary of women’s voting rights and all that entails. We have come a long way but we still have far to go.

The mixed media is purely whimsical. I have always been a mix of Willy Wonka meets Prince in the truest sense. I am inspired by all types of design, style, fashion, music, CANDY, etc. That is who I am as an artist. You will see images and experiences from childhood of a few of the best decades (70s and 80s). POP ART has become an artistic passion as of late and I am loving exploring that process. Various pops of colors, spray painting all the time, and making my own resin pieces to add to the fun.

About the Artist

Faith Blackwell has been a full-time photographer since 2011. While working in marketing for the International Masonry Institute, she picked up a camera and discovered her passion for photography. Photography chose her.

Faith is a published photographer specializing in business, commercial, event and fashion photography. She was the 2015 featured artist for Dress for Success Indianapolis Stepping Out In Style, the premier fundraiser for the organization and has been part of art exhibits at Saks 5th Avenue for the past 2 years. Faith has a studio at the historic Stutz Building. She is a board member of the Fashion Arts Society at Newfields and an active volunteer/photographer for Dress for Success Indianapolis. Faith is also the Event Photographer for Indy Maven, a digital connector for women in central Indiana through captivating and rich storytelling, crazy fun events and an audience of highly engaged badass women.

Inspiration comes in all shapes and forms. Faith is a child of the 80s and uses this in her work and thrives when she is able to be creative. People tend to think of her work as whimsical and smile whenever they view it. Much of her passion projects show this. Faith loves to create works of art that promote female empowerment. She’s working on POP ART mixed media work and her latest project, Sole Purpose, a podcast/exhibit/book, which will feature not only people in the Indianapolis community but around the world.
