Driven by the complexity, diversity, and beauty of the world around her, Molly Dykstra’s series, Powerful Natures, explores our connection with our own power.
I am endlessly fascinated by the world around me. Its complexity, diversity and beauty inspire me every minute of every day. My work is driven by these inspirations. Each piece I create tells its own story, yet I often discover an underlying theme uniting several works into a cohesive whole. One of these discoveries led me to create Powerful Natures, a collection exploring our relationship with our power. It started by asking someone a simple question, “When do you feel powerful?” The answer was surprising. I painted several portraits revealing what I learned about people’s most powerful selves. As I continued to explore, I found similar power in the animal kingdom and in hidden micro dragons living in floral macro worlds.
In addition to painting, I work with a variety of materials and mediums. At times I am led to be spontaneous and reactive; while other work begs to be meticulously planned before its creation. My intuition guides my choices. I am simply my art’s facilitator, discovering its voice and allowing it to be seen.
Free and open to the public.
