“Alchemy is described as the process of transmuting a base metal into gold,” Hedrick said, explaining her dreamlike paintings. “However, in a spiritual and personal sense, it is a term used to describe the process of turning the ordinary into something perfect. I like to create perfection in the imperfect, in my life and in my art. Ugly things and situations can be made beautiful if you change your mindset about them.”

About Alena Hedrick

Alena Hedrick is an Indianapolis-based oil painter, whose show will act as a catharsis from a chaotic year. “This year has been full of changes, trials, blessings, and confusion emotions for me,” Hedrick said. “This collection encompasses the good and the bad, as well as my intention to find perfection in all of it.”

Hedrick’s paintings reflect a retro styling, with sometimes somber accents, such as flies scattered throughout. She adds whimsy to her perspective and often uses her art to purge emotions that she has trouble communicating, as well as to show viewers who she is on the inside. And, while she paints, Hedrick admits she listens to music and dances, “winging it” to let the emotions flow freely.

About the Full Circle Nine Gallery

The Full Circle Nine Gallery operates as an artist cooperative gallery, with each of the member artists and the board dividing gallery duties and artists roles. The artists will work together to help each other advance in skill and practice, as well as to bring success to the gallery.
