Gabriel Akre is an Indianapolis artist and senior painting and sculpture major at the Herron School Art + Design. His work has been exhibited in the Barnes & Thornburg and Frost Todd Brown law firms in downtown Indianapolis, as well as two exhibitions in Florence, Italy. His work is heavily inspired by the created world around him, particularly the places he’s traveled, giving high attention to atmosphere, color, light, and a deep sense of space.
This show is the first StorageSpace Artist Residency Exhibition. Gabriel Akre worked in the studio all summer and created this body of work and every work in the show was created during that time.
The title The Space in Between indicates the time which the work was made being in between semesters where there is little intellectual or creative obligation, the atmospheric space that many of the paintings display, and even the space between the viewer and the work itself.
