Barbara Shoup will bring out your inner-adolescent to help you identify and explore universal issues and events of adolescence that still resonate for you and offer strategies for shaping them into novels that appeal to kids today.
Instructor: Barbara Shoup
When asked for advice about writing for children, Maurice Sendak responded, “I don’t write for children; I write as a child.” The same holds true if you want to write “for” young adults. The first session of this class, taught by award-winning YA author, Barbara Shoup, will bring out your inner-adolescent to help you identify and explore universal issues and events of adolescence that still resonate for you and offer strategies for shaping them into novels that appeal to kids today. Students will bring the first page of their YA novel to the second session for feedback and critique.
