Katharine Mehrling: On the Edge of Night

Katharine Mehrling: On the Edge of Night

Presented by The Cabaret at The Cabaret

The petite singer/actress with the enormous charismatic voice combines witty Berlin charm with Parisienne elegance, eroticism and nostalgia. The Berliner Zeitung claimed her voice “is pure magic, smoky and intimate, yet it blows you away,” and Radio France International praised her as “a must-see performer.” She brings the European grand ‘Chanson’ tradition to The Cabaret stage – mixing evergreens by Hollaender, Aznavour, and Piaf with lesser-known material of Abraham and Kalman, and sharing personal and heart-breaking stories that blend the past with the present.

Katharine Mehrling is a four time winner of Berlin’s Best and Most Beloved Actress Award for her roles in of in End Of The Rainbow (Judy Garland), Next To Normal (Diana Goodman), My Fair Lady (Eliza Doolittle), as well as for her major triumphs at the Komische Opera Berlin in Arizona Lady and in the “degenerate” Berlin Jazz Operetta Ball Im Savoy. She made her stage debut at London’s Old Vic Theater in the revival production of Hair and has been the Leading Lady in numerous productions throughout Europe including, Irma La Douce, Piaf, Funny GirlKiss Me Kate, The Three-Penny Opera, Tell Me On A Sunday, Cabaret, and Evita.

Together with Jazz legend Rolf Kühn, she wrote the songs for her award-winning album Am Rande Der Nacht (On The Edge Of Night). Katharine appeared as the cabaret singer in the Officer’s Club scene of Bryan Singer’s film Valkyrie next to Tom Cruise. Her song “Für eine Nacht voller Seligkeit“can be heard on the Soundtrack.

Presented in partnership with B Sides.
