Indianapolis printmaker Kurt Ihrig brings his prints to SCAC’s Featured Artists Gallery for November & December.
In Kurt’s own words about his main medium, woodcut, he says, “Some of it is the meditative state I feel when carving an image on the block, or the hissing sound a roller makes coated in ink or the resistance of paper being pulled up from the block’s surface revealing a perfect image. Woodcut is the closest thing I know to two-dimensional sculpture. As these color reduction prints use one block to print all colors, you can’t help but feel that a balancing principal of destruction and creation is being expressed. As a practicing Buddhist, I find this art form to be its most authentic outlet.”
SCAC is open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 11 am-5 pm. Special hours include 1-5 pm on Sunday, November 10 and December 8. We will be closed on Thankgiving Day.
