The 25 member artists have paired off by a random drawing and together worked to combine their talents into one piece of art per team. “Our member artists represent a wide variety of art media,” FC9 president and founder Joy Hernandez said. “We’ve naturally had some individual team-ups and collaborations on pieces in the gallery, so this was a good time to show what happens when we work together.”

About “Duet”

Each of the 25 member artists had their names drawn out of a bowl to make the pairs. The request was simple in words: “Combine your own art styles to make one piece.” Other than a size limitation, the implementation of the project was completely left to each pair of artists.  Many of the member artists are painters or photographers, but each has a different style and approach to their media. Added to the mix were three-dimensional artists working in clay, mosaic, and assemblage.

“Collaborating with another artist who uses a completely different medium has really made us stretch our creativity,” mosaic artist Nicole Staab said. “Combining a painted canvas with stained glass mosaics will give us a chance to create something I would have not imagined before.”

“When you push yourself outside of your comfort zone, there is an opportunity for growth,” Staab’s Duet partner Molly Young Meier, a painter, said. “This art piece could succeed or it could fail but either way, you learn something new.”

“Duet” marks the third annual December group show for the Full Circle Nine Gallery and caps off a year of growth for the physical gallery space. In early 2019, the FC9 membership worked together to expand the gallery from the existing two rooms into an adjacent space, tackling common renovation difficulties as a team. This expansion led to growth in membership, as more artists were welcomed in to the fresh walls.

About the Full Circle Nine Gallery

The Full Circle Nine Gallery operates as an artist cooperative gallery, with each of the member artists and the board dividing gallery duties and artists roles. The artists will work together to help each other advance in skill and practice, as well as to bring success to the gallery.

With over two dozen artists occupying a large, three-room space of the more factory-reminiscent portion of the Circle City Industrial Complex, Full Circle Nine offers a wide variety of art forms, media, and approaches.
