Pianist Jooyoung Kim, a native of South Korea, has been critically acclaimed on international stages for her dazzling technique, superb musicianship, and exquisite artistry. Since making her debut at the age of twelve as a soloist with the Korean Symphony Orchestra, Ms. Kim has presented numerous solo and chamber recitals in Korea, Japan, Germany, Spain, France, Portugal, Italy, Russia, and the United States. She has appeared as a soloist with many orchestras including the Korean Symphony Orchestra, Yonsei Sinfonietta, Yale University Symphony Orchestra, and the Ball State Symphony Orchestra, among others.

Jooyoung Kim maintains an active performance career in recitals with numerous singers and instrumentalists. She has given solo and chamber recitals on guest artist series in colleges and universities including Anderson University, Taylor University, Indiana Wesleyan University, Ball State University, Indiana University, University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Grand Valley State University, The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, among others. Her upcoming and recent performances on a number of notable concert series include the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series in Chicago, St. Martin-in-the-Fields Concert Series in London, The American Cathedral in Paris, Atelier Concert Series in Paris, Montpelier Arts Center Classical Recital Series in Washington D. C, Pianoforte Foundation Series in Chicago, Indianapolis Matinee Musicale Concert at Indiana Landmarks Center, Hempy Keyboard Series in Michigan, The ENLACE Concert in Philadelphia, Mu Phi Epsilon Concert Series in Dallas, Live In-Studio Concert on Classical 90.5 WUOL in Louisville, 2015 Kawai Invitation Recital Series in Seoul, Piano Duo Concert sponsored by Steinway & Sons, Solo Recital at Kumho Art Hall, Young Artist Concert sponsored by Cho-Sun Daily Newspaper at Sejong Cultural Center, Joint Piano Recital at Yamaha Hall, and numerous solo and chamber recitals throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. Her performances have been broadcasted live on the radio stations in the United States.

Ms. Kim has won top prizes in numerous national and international competitions including the Joong-Ang National Music Competition, the Yonsei Debut Award, the Kingsville International Piano Competition, the IBLA Grand Prize International Competition, Indianapolis Matinee Musicale Competition, Ball State University Graduate Concerto Competition, the 12th International Beethoven Piano Sonata Competition, the Bradshaw and Buono International Piano Competition, the Montpelier Art Recital Competition, and the Taneev International Chamber Ensemble Competition in Russia where she took Third Prize, Prize of the Foreign Ensemble, and Prize of the Union Composers of Russia.

As an active recitalist, soloist, and chamber musician, Ms. Kim has performed in various music festivals and conferences including Yong-Pyung Music Festival, Busan Piano Festival in Korea, International Piano Festival in Spain, Courchevel International Music Festival in France, Internationale Klavierakademie Murrhardt in Germany, Benefic Chamber Music Camp, Aria International Summer Academy, 40th Festival of New American Music in Sacramento, Indiana Music Teachers Association State Conference, National Flute Association Convention, and College Music Society Conference.

As a sought-after collaborative pianist and chamber musician, Ms. Kim has been invited to collaborate with renowned singers and instrumentalists such as flutists Bonita Boyd, Camilla Hoitenga, Lois Herbine and Jim Walker, soprano Nova Thomas, cellists Julia Lichten and Natalia Gutman, violinist Piotr Milewsky, members of the American Piano Trio and Trio Harmonia in various concert series, music festivals, and conferences. Ms. Kim’s passion for contemporary music has led her to numerous collaborations with composers and giving acclaimed premiere performances of new works.

Ms. Kim was also invited to perform at prestigious venues including Carnegie Weill Recital Hall, Chicago Cultural Center, New York University Casa Italian Zerilli Marimo, Falcone- Borsellino Hall in Italy, Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory, and Kaluga Philharmonic Hall in Russia as a prizewinner of many international competitions. Critic/Composer Jeffrey James wrote of her Carnegie Hall debut “Jooyoung Kim gave a forceful, poetic, sensitive and at times even playful reading of Liszt. Technically wonderful playing of a very high level.”

Jooyoung Kim graduated from Yewon Arts School, Seoul Arts High School, and Yonsei University in Seoul, Korea, from which she earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees with top honors. Ms. Kim received Artist Diploma from the Universität der Künste in Berlin, Germany and then proceeded to earn a doctoral degree from Ball State University as a teaching assistant and a recipient of full scholarship. During her doctoral study, Ms. Kim was awarded the Graduate Student Recognition Award for every year and, by a vote of the faculty, the Outstanding Graduate Student for the 2008-2009 school year. Fittingly, she was awarded the ASPIRE Creative Art Grants in 2007 and 2009.

Prior to joining the piano faculty at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in fall of 2018, Ms. Kim has taught at Ball State University, Indiana Wesleyan University, Indiana University East, and Indiana University Kokomo. Ms. Kim has recently released her solo CD on MSR Classics.
