artist reception

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (December 24, 2019) – The Harrison Center starts the new year strong with Nebulous Navigation, new work by Johnny Mckee in the Harrison Gallery. The show opens with an artist reception on Friday, January 3 from 6:00 to 9:00pm. McKee, who both maintains a studio and curates the Underground Gallery at the Harrison Center, explained that the show title means that no matter what goals we set in place, they are never achieved in a straight line. He goes on to say that this show proves that point in that the final product is much different than what he started out to create. While there are familiar elements to previous work – stars, clouds – this show also draws heavily from literature, most notably Herman Melville’s Moby Dick. As a teacher, McKee is particularly proud of a collaborative piece that he created with students from ArtMix, an organization that creates opportunities for learning, self-expression, and socialization for people with disabilities.
In the City Gallery, see portraits by Abi Ogle of the 2019 Greatriarchs of Monon 16, long time neighborhood residents whose stories are being told and treasured through the Harrison Center’s PreEnactIndy work.
Speck Gallery features the Ball State Senior Showcase with work by Alex Baumgartner, Anne Green, Emma Hapner, Lillian Marsh, and Holly Osburn.
The Gallery Annex presents Midnight Therapy by R.A. Buys and Explorations by Kristi Marsh Watson.
Work by painters Brendan Day and Josh Rush is on display in Hank & Dolly’s Gallery.
In the Underground Gallery, a group show by the 67th Street Printmakers, Multiple Originals, features work by this printmaker collective that is dedicated to sharing their art and the various methods of printmaking.
The work hangs through January 31.
