Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Celebration

at Unknown

We are preparing for a momentous day in celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Join us on Monday, January 20, 2020, as we honor Dr. King’s legacy and have a candid conversation with criminal justice reform advocate Kevin D. Richardson. Despite there being no DNA, and little evidence connecting Richardson and four other teens to a heinous crime from 1989, he was unjustly charged and sentenced to serve 5 to 10 years in jail. In the spring of 2019, Netflix released When They See Us, a mini-series depicting the well-known events of the case as mentioned earlier. The celebrated and award-winning show has brought the injustices Richardson, and the Central Park Five experienced back into the public’s attention.

Our Dr. MLK Day of Celebration Freedom March begins outside the newly opened Kurt Vonnegut Museum and Library (KVML) located at 543 Indiana Ave. at 9:45 am; then, we will march together across Dr. MLK Jr. St. to the Walker Theatre located at 617 Indiana Ave. for an uplifting program.
