Protecting the Vote, will highlight how the United States voting process has changed over the years and will showcase President Benjamin Harrison’s role in protecting the voting process.
See historical voting machines and how the devices changed over time to provide more security during the voting process. Learn more about Indiana’s only U.S. president’s involvement with the Federal Elections Bill, which would have protected the African American right to vote had it been successful. Artifacts include a direct recording voting system, also known as a lever voting machine, a “hanging chad” voting machine, a glass ballot box, historical ballots and a variety of Harrison’s campaign memorabilia.
Light refreshments and beverages will be provided at this open house-style event, which will take place in the Welcome Center of the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site.
