Featured Artist – Spoken Word

Manon Voice, an Indianapolis native, is a poet, writer, spoken word artist, hip-hop emcee, educator, social justice advocate, and community builder. She has performed all throughout the country in both word and song and has facilitated art and poetry workshops, working with organizations such as Women Writing for (a) Change, Arts for Learning Indiana, and Purdue University. Manon has performed alongside acts such as Jennifer Holliday, Adrian Matejka, and David Whyte and has been featured in the Indianapolis productions The Wake and Village Voices: Notes from a Griot. Her poetry has appeared in several publications including The Flying Island, The Indianapolis Review, and Sidepiece Magazine. Manon is a recipient of the Power of Peace Award from the Peace Learning Center of Central Indiana and the 2020 Robert D. Beckmann Jr., Emerging Artist Fellowship from the Arts Council of Indianapolis.

 

The Arts Council of Indianapolis celebrates Black History Month with a series of free, daily performances and not-to-be-missed events at the Indianapolis Artsgarden.

This is the 24th year of the Art & Soul celebration, which runs from February 1 – 29, 2020.
