A native of Indianapolis, Indiana, Kayla Behforouz is a composer, singer-songwriter, pianist, and vocalist. She began her musical studies at Interlochen Arts Academy, where she studied music composition and piano performance. Behforouz then studied at the University of Southern California (USC), studying music composition under Sean Friar and jazz piano under David Arnay. At USC, Behforouz wrote a piece for the NOW Ensemble and sang with the University of Southern California Chamber Singers, performing the West Coast premier of Craig Hella Johnson’s “Considering Matthew Sheppard” and touring new music in Estonia, Latvia,
Lithuania, and Poland.

Behforouz is currently finishing her undergraduate degree at Indiana University, studying International Law and Institutions. She continues to perform as a solo artist, vocalist of the IU Soul Revue band, and member of the funk, soul, and R&B band Down
to Funk.
