Talking Track with Bob Jenkins & Al Unser, Jr. (Canceled)

Presented by Indiana Landmarks at Indiana Landmarks Center

A distinguished race broadcaster in both radio and television, Indiana native Bob Jenkins was one of the first on-air employees of the ESPN cable network when it launched in 1979. From ’79 until 2000, he anchored NASCAR races on ESPN and ABC, including the first seven Brickyard 400s. From 1990-1998, Jenkins served as the chief announcer for the worldwide Indianapolis Motor Speedway Radio Network broadcast of the Indianapolis 500. Jenkins also anchored ESPN’s popular Thunder series broadcasts of USAC Sprint and Midget car events, and hosted ESPN’s SpeedWeek. Before retiring in 2012, Jenkins anchored IndyCar races broadcast by the Versus network (now NBCSN).

Al Unser, Jr., followed in the footsteps of his father and uncle to become a repeat champion at Indianapolis, winning the Indianapolis 500 in 1992 and 1994. A rookie in 1983, he was the first to compete against his own father in the same Indianapolis 500. Competing in his 19th Indianapolis 500 in 2007, and after logging seven finishes of fifth or higher, Unser moved into third place in the all-time “laps completed” standings (3,173), surpassed only by his father and A.J. Foyt. Among his more remarkable achievements, Unser won the challenging Long Beach, California, road race no less than six times, including four years in succession, 1988 through 1991.

Jenkins will interview Unser on stage in the Grand Hall at Indiana Landmarks Center, 1201 Central Avenue in Indianapolis. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with cash bar and light refreshments available; talk begins at 6 p.m. No reserved seating.
