Next Indiana Campfires: White River Virtual Trek

Next Indiana Campfires: White River Virtual Trek

Presented by Indiana Humanities at Zoom Link

The Upper White River is Central Indiana’s most important waterway; its entire watershed spreads across 16 counties and is home to more than 1.6 million Hoosiers. Each and every person who lives in the watershed shapes the health of the White River—and in turn, it shapes our lives in subtle and significant ways. The White River is a vital home to wildlife, an important source of drinking water, and a place of beauty and recreation for people.

Now, thanks to the magic of technology, we’re creating a unique, socially-distanced virtual trek down the river as it makes its way through Madison, Hamilton and Marion Counties. No life vest required!

We will read short texts and have conversation about the ways people have shaped the White River and how the river has in turn shaped the communities along it. Facilitator Ryan Schnurr of Purdue University will lead us through readings and conversation, while Emily Wood of Indiana Wildlife will be along to point out features of the landscape and how she and others are working to restore it today.
