Riverside Regional Park Open House + Art Opening: Adventure in the Making!

Riverside Regional Park Open House + Art Opening: Adventure in the Making!

Presented by Riverside Regional Park at Riverside Regional Park

As a next step in transforming the former Riverside Golf Course into a park for everyone, Indy Parks is hosting a Riverside Regional Park Open House and Art Opening on Saturday, September 12 from 12 – 4 p.m. with guided tours on foot or bike throughout the day.
Attendees are invited to share their thoughts on the transformation of the former Riverside Golf Course into a multi-use park for everyone and:
– Explore the park through self-guided and guided tours by foot or bike.
– Enjoy local food trucks, music, and dance performances.
– View five new temporary art installations.

The first 100 people to fill out the online or hard copy survey during the event will receive a ticket for a free item at one of the food trucks. Bring your own bike or rent one from the Pacer Bikeshare located at the nearby Riverside Park Family Center. Guided tours will occur at 1 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m. and leave from the event hub, which is located at the bottom of Soap Box Derby Hill at 3001 N. White River Parkway W Dr.

In 2017 Indy Parks completed a master plan for Riverside Regional Park, which will guide the development of the park over the next 20 years. While the plan will have a long lifespan, there will be projects identified that can allow improvements to begin as soon as possible. One of the projects identified in the Riverside Park Master Plan is an adventure play and nature experience for the 200 acres of land located north of 30th Street.  This area includes the former Riverside Golf Course, Crooked Creek, and the old Lake Sullivan just south of I-65.  It is bordered by the White River on the east and Cold Spring Road on the west.  This project will be an opportunity to transform the land from its former single use to a wide variety of activities and uses.

In preparation for redevelopment efforts, the golf course closed at the end of 2019. Now, the site is available for the community to visit the grounds and experience its natural beauty while providing feedback on the vision for the future. Additional information on the project and a virtual tour can be found on the project website at www.adventureriverside.com. Indy Parks wants to hear from you, so please stop by and join us.  For more information about Indy Parks and its services, visit parks.indy.gov or call (317) 327-PARK.

In case of inclement weather, the rain date for the Open House + Art Opening is Saturday, September 26, 2020.
