Indy Parks Throughout the Years: First Friday Speaker Program

Indy Parks Throughout the Years: First Friday Speaker Program

Presented by Garfield Park Arts Center at Online/Virtual Space

Learn how our greenspaces have evolved over time and created a space for civic pride, community, and culture across Indy for over 140 years. Stories and historical narratives will be shared by local historians and individuals from Indy Parks, Friends of Garfield Park, Garfield Park Neighbors Association, and the Indiana Historical Society, giving participants the chance to learn about the quirky, wild, interesting, sometimes challenging stories behind the origin of our city parks. Reflect on both the history and future of parks as community-gathering spaces that aim to be accessible, inclusive, and equitable for all to utilize.

This event, part of the Spirit & Place Festival, will be a virtual program via Zoom Webinar.

Enjoy the online exhibition, Indy Parks Throughout the Years, from November 5-19 at gpacarts.org. This exhibit aims to celebrate Indianapolis’s Bicentennial by sharing in well-known, quirky, and even difficult stories connected to Indy Parks through an exhibit of historical narratives and images.

Additional details will be posted in this event and on our website, gpacarts.org. For any questions, please contact us at GPAC@indy.gov.
