Mural

 110 W. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN, 46204

This mural was commissioned by the Arts Council of Indianapolis for the 25th anniversary of the Indianapolis Artsgarden. Inspired by the space and its “wings” extending up the stairs, this mural remembers the importance of butterflies in our ecosystem as pollinators, as well as symbols of transformation and remembrance of those that came before us.

Shamira Wilson is an interdisciplinary visual artist based in Indianapolis.  She creates minimalist, abstract art that explores the repeat patterns of textiles. Her work alludes to the storytelling qualities found in narrative textiles and objects across the African Diaspora. Fusing similarities in the language of graphic arts, textiles, furniture, and architecture, her compositions express impressions left by the contemporary domestic, built, and natural landscape.
