Riverside on my Mind / Riverside on the Brain

Riverside on my Mind / Riverside on the Brain

Mural - Temporary

 1804 Mansfield, Indianapolis, IN, 46202

The artist grew up a block away from the artwork location, at 1825 Mansfield Street, and attended the nearby IPS School #44 (now Global Prep Academy). This collage represents the Riverside of his youth on one side, and the Riverside of today on the other. Each side shows images of people, places, events, and buildings from their respective timeframes, reflecting on both the changes that have taken place and the community values that have remained the same.

The artwork was originally installed as part of Indy Art & Seek, a 2020 project of the Arts Council of Indianapolis and Keep Indianapolis Beautiful.

A lifelong resident of Indianapolis, Chrystopher Burns is an elementary school art teacher by day and a visual artist by night. A lover of all arts, he has chosen abstract painting as the ideal medium by which he conveys the visions in his mind’s eye. His use of bright colors and black outlines make his artwork striking and memorable. In recent years, Chrys has had works shown at Garfield Park Art Center’s Black History Month art exhibit and at Central Library’s annual “Meet the Artist” showcase. He was also one of three featured artists in the “Perspective” exhibition at Indiana Landmarks (September 2019) and was selected as the cover artist for 2020’s Indy Fringe festival. Chrys strongly believes that, “as artists, we have the power to combat the ugly and negative that we see in society and add to the beautiful and positive.” He works under the name One Man Graphics.
