Barbara Boyd Living the Legacy

Historical - Mural

2425 Dr Martin Luther King Jr S, Indianapolis, IN, 46208

This transit stop installation tells the story of Barbara Boyd, a pioneer in broadcast journalism in Indianapolis. Boyd was the first Black female news anchor to serve a major metropolitan city, as well as the first Black woman to be inducted into the Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame.

This installation was part of a project by The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Legacy Project in 2010 that asked students to select excerpts from speeches and sermons of Dr. King that speak to them today. This is one of five transit shelters included in the project, and this transit shelter shows quotes chosen by Key Learning Community, Elder W. Diggs School 42, and Flanner House Charter School.
