This mural is a portrait of actress and writer Issa Rae (b. 1985). Her own writing, acting, and producing work centers her voice and experiences as a Black American woman, while her YouTube channel is a platform for the voices of other creators of color. As an activist she advocates for Black Americans and raises funds for various causes that further equality and social justice.  By presenting her portrait, the artist is holding her up as a role model for others who are looking for inspiration and a way to use their own voice.

Michael “Kwazar” Martin is an Indianapolis-based painter, muralist, and street artist. He is self-taught and counts popular culture, Black and African heritage, and sports among his artistic influences.
