Carl Leck’s previous mural on this site, entitled White River Aquaculture Preservation Aquarium, presented a fanciful aquarium teeming with underwater life. Colorful koi, swaying coral, and fish inhabited a trompe-l’oeil water habitat.  Unfortunately, the site had experienced damage and discoloration since its 2011 installation, and in 2020 the mural was replaced with Aqueous.   The current mural replicates a natural process of sediment staining from overhead runoff, cleverly placed to minimize future disfiguring marks, but preserves the underwater theme.

The original mural was one of 46 murals commissioned in 2011 by the Arts Council of Indianapolis as part of its nationally renowned 46 for XLVI mural initiative. The replacement mural was created in 2020.
