Historic and modern worlds meet in Vanderburgh County. Located here is a historic Middle Mississippian Indian town of the 14th and 15 centuries.  THe inhabitants built a commercial and religious regional center, which included an eastern mound rising 44 feet and covering four acres. Currently, the county seat, Evansville, is the largest city in southern Indiana.

Feather and multi-colored bead-like fragments crafted from aluminum lie burried in a ridge of stone, sketching an incomplete profile of a Native American chieftain. Depending on the distance between the viewer and this piece, it can have a dffrent appearance. Up close the image is not as clear but farther away it becomes much easier to decipher.

Designers Jeff Laramore and David Jameson Young of 2nd Globe, an Indianapolis–based artistic company designed all 92 and the county sculptures featured on the outside of the Indiana State Museum. Their designs narrate the counties’ famous natives, historically significant events, or their fabricated and installed by various Indiana sculptors, carvers, class workers, metal workers, and other artisans.
