92 County Walk- White County

White County is often referred to as the summer playground of the Midwest. Lake Shafer and Lake Freeman have historically provided resort destinations for the nearby Chicago residents looking for an escape  from the heat of the city. White County remains a favorite location for boating, fishing, and swimming and other water sports.

White County’s icon depicts an aspiring water skier balancing on one ski and clutching a tow rope. His head creates a wide ripple in the stone surface. There is a medium sized steel sphere in the center that indicates the skier’s head. The  triangle shape at the very top represents the tow rope as the skier holds on. The ski resembles a feather and is in the center of the triangle.

Designers Jeff Laramore and David Jemerson Young of 2nd Globe, an Indianapolis–based artistic company, designed all 92 of the county sculptures featured on the outside of the Indiana State Museum. Their designs narrate the counties’ famous natives, historically significant events, or their cultural characteristics, and were fabricated and installed by various Indiana sculptors, carvers, glassworkers, metalworkers, and other artisans.
