Mural

 855 E. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN, 46202

The title of this mural suggests the many ways in which the imagery may be intepreted:  a corridor or crossing, the passage of time, a reference to travel or motion, or as something fleeting and transitory.

The mural pays tribute to the history of U.S. 40 (the former National Road).  The trees and figures allude to both past and present sights along this stretch of highway, while the airplanes reference travel and move along the restless currents of traffic flowing east and west.

Amy Rheinhardt is an Indianapolis-based artist.

Funding for Vibrant Corridors, a city-wide effort to create murals in key underpasses and gateways around downtown Indianapolis, is provided in part by the Lilly Foundation and the Glick Fund, a fund of Central Indiana Community Foundation, Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, the Arts Council of Indianapolis, and Downtown Indy.

This mural was completed during the 2014 Indy Do Days with the help of more than 50 employees and volunteers with Downtown Indy.
