Lilly Oncology on Canvas (LOOC) has provided individuals affected by cancer with an opportunity to share their stories through art and narrative. Since its founding in 2004, in partnership with the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship, thousands of LOOC participants have been inspired to share their journey with countless others. A family member, friend, or caregiver from Virginia designed this mural after their mother passed away from lung cancer. This mural reflects how running transformed them and freed them from their grief. The artist likes to think that the butterflies that cross the path while running are a symbol of their mom, because when she passed away a butterfly appeared on their mom’s hospital room door.
