Miracle Place Park Mural

Mural - Temporary

 936 N. Temple Ave., Indianapolis, IN, 46201

Created as a community engagement activity and stemming from the Indy East Art Peace initiative, this temporary mural enlivens a small community park in the St. Clair Place neighborhood.  Images of an abstracted sun, sky, clouds, and birds on one side provide a breath of nature in the urban environment, while text quotes on the other side encourage young people to dream and persevere.

The mural was designed by artist Tosca Carranza, who lives in St. Clair Place, specifically to be painted by local youth. While painting, the artist took the opportunity to ask the young people to tell her about their hopes and dreams–this effort helps them envision a peaceful world and a life for themselves beyond the circumstances of the neighborhood. Carranza teaches art for Indianapolis Public Schools and is a participating artist in Indy East Art Peace. IMPD East District community liaison officers Stacy Riojas and Roman Williams-Ervin, also participants in Indy East Art Peace, likewise conversed with the youth during the painting process to help encourage positive relationships between the community and the police.
