Garbage Girl in Space

Garbage Girl in Space

Mural

1028 Shelby St (alley), Indianapolis, IN, 46203

Garbage Girl in Space was inspired by old comic books from the 1960’s that featured kitschy science fiction as their theme.  All the comics had to be approved by the Comics Code Authority for decency in order to receive a stamp in the upper right hand corner (which the artist has recreated). The mural shows a girl with a bubble helmet riding a garbage can through space. It was created in September 2019 as part of a general call to artists to paint the alley in honor of Square Cat Vinyl’s Backalley Ballyhoo, an annual street music event that in 2019 had a psychedelic-space theme.

Madysen Koontz is a muralist from Henry County, Indiana.  Some of her first public art was created through the Arts Association of Henry County (AAHC) Mural Camp, in 2016 & 2018.  She attended the Herron School of Art and has been an instructor at the Indianapolis Art Center.
